White Fillings and Crowns
SERVICES » White Fillings and Crowns
Dental caries (or decay) results in a hole (cavity) inside the tooth. This cavity can progressively get larger and deeper if it is left untreated.
When the cavity is small, the pediatric dentist can remove the decay from the tooth and fill in the resulting hole with a filling. At my kid’s Dentist, the filling is white in color and made of composite resin. It is a very safe material, which does not contain any metal, mercury or Bisphenol-A (or BPA).
When the cavity is large or deep, a white filling cannot be used to restore the tooth. A crown is a better treatment option and will protect the tooth from breaking under “chewing” forces. At my kid’s Dentist, both silver stainless steel and white zirconia crowns are available. Consult the pediatric dentist to determine which option that is best suited for you and your child.
